Sketch
A loose beginning — enough structure to guide the painting without controlling it.
Behind the paintings
Paper · pigment · brushes · happy accidents
A quiet little corner where sketches become paintings, colours find each other, and ideas slowly come to life.
Step insideWhere the paintings begin
Every painting begins differently. Sometimes it starts with a photograph, a sketch or a memory.
Other times it begins with nothing more than a colour I cannot stop thinking about.
The studio is where those small ideas are allowed to grow — slowly, imperfectly and with plenty of water, paper and pigment.
The process
A loose beginning — enough structure to guide the painting without controlling it.
The paper is allowed to breathe while washes spread, soften and find their own edges.
Layers of colour build slowly, leaving room for texture, transparency and surprise.
A few final details, then knowing when to put the brush down and let the piece be.
On the table
A few little glimpses of the messy middle — unfinished washes, colour tests, sketches and paintings waiting for their next layer.
Favourite things
Good paper, beautiful pigments, a handful of trusted brushes and plenty of clean water — sometimes the simplest materials create the most interesting results.
The best part of watercolour is that it never behaves exactly the same way twice.Bianca
